Episode 1
The constables go out to arrest a band of thieves, but find that they have flown the coop. Someone at headquarters seems to have leaked their plans. Then, a childhood friend of Hachibei's, another town official, is killed...
Episode 2
A swordsman has been slaying people on the streets of Edo. A carpenter is saved from death by the constables, but the culprit escapes. From the carpenter's descriptions and the family crest discovered at the site, Aoyama discovers a link with his past.
Episode 3
After a noh performance, Hachibei is asked to escort an actor to his home. On the way, the actor is attacked and Hachibei is wounded by an arrow. Yayoi discovers the signature of Sharaku, a famous artist of 30 years ago, on the arrow.
Episode 4
The constables chase a band of thieves into an alley where the disappear. There is only one place they could have gone, but when the constables check out Narigoma-ya all is well. Hachibei becomes suspicious when he sees a bandage on the owner's arm.
Episode 5
The body of the owner of a dry goods shop is found floating in Sumida River. Hachibei rules it a suicide after finding a note nearby. However, a young worker at the shop insists that her boss was murdered.
Episode 6
Ichirota gets word of a huge illegal gambling hall. When the constables get there, all they find is a group of people playing go. The woman who gave Ichirota the false information is known in the neighborhood as "Oyae the Liar." One day, she claims to have found a dead body...
Episode 7
One day, a little boy claiming to be the son of Sojuro is brought in by Ichirota. It seems his mother was a barmaid with whom Sojuro had dallied about six years ago. Unable to face his wife alone with this confession, Sojuro brings Hachibei along.
Episode 8
Evil brothers Bungo and Heihachi have collected a gang of masterless samurai, down on their luck, to attack and rob people on the streets. When shopkeeper Omi and his assistant are killed, the constables go after the gang with a vengeance.
Episode 9
Osen is arrested in a raid of an unlicensed red light district. She is released on the condition that she does not return to her former life. While she waits for a job to become available, she stays with Hachibei. Aoyama's little son soon becomes attached to her.
Episode 10 - Final Episode
Sojuro's daughter is soon to marry Kazuma, son of a Karasuyama Clan official. Sojuro is delighted by this stroke of good fortune, but the official cancels the wedding at the last minute. When the official is killed, Sojuro falls under suspicion.
