Episode 1
One day, an elegant woman and her daughter arrive by train in a little country town. She is Kahori, the new wife of the son of the town bigshot, Watanuki, who treats her with contempt. Unable to adapt to her new environment, Kahori is desperately unhappy.
Episode 2
Kahori and Yoshimori meet for the first time when she comes to the station to pick up Shiori. One night, a drunken Kahori appears at the station, and she ends up telling her troubles to Yoshimori. Although her husband seems to loves her deeply, she is hurt by the attitude of her father-in-law.
Episode 3
Yoshimori and his father are invited to dinner at the Watanuki residence. They see how contemptuously Kahori and her daughter are being treated. Hiromu is upset when he sees how close Yoshimori and Shiori have become. One night, when Kahori is visiting Yoshimori at the station, Hiromu drops by unexpectedly.
Episode 4
Kahori rents an apartment to use as a rendezvous, but soon, the secret is out. Hiromu hires a housekeeper to keep an eye on her. Yoshimori's father plans to transfer him to another station. Yoshimori arranges to meet Kahori at the apartment, but just then, Hiromu discovers the address of the apartment!
Episode 5
Taking flight on the spur of the moment, Yoshimori, Kahori and her daughter head north. When they reach Akita, Yoshimori takes them to a ranch where is mother has been living. All is calm for a while, but Hiromu is fast on their tracks.
Episode 6
With Hiromu breathing down their necks, the three flee further north to Hachinohe. They want to settle here, but Shiori cannot be registered in a school since they have no identification. Blaming herself for the arguments between her mother and Yoshimori, Shiori makes a call to Hiromu.
Episode 7
The three fugitives head for a lake in Hokkaido, with Hiromu on their heels. They take refuge in an isolated lodge, but soon Hiromu catches up to them. Kahori flees from the lodge when he and Yoshimori get into a fight. Soon, Shiori hears a scream.
Episode 8
Feeling deep remorse and guilt after the death of Kahori, Yoshimori spends the next 6 years in prison. Then one day, he is faced by Shiori, now 15, who begs him to tell her the truth about her mother's death. Hiromu, who's preparing for the mayorial race, orders Yoshimori to leave town.
Episode 9
Shiori visits Yoshimori, who plans to go to Shimonoseki. Hiromu drops in and tells Yoshimori the truth about Kahori's death. Yoshimori and Shiori go for a bicycle ride and relive the fun times they had with her mother. Shiori asks to go on the family trip they had planned on, but never took.
Episode 10
Shiori insists on going to Shimonoseki with Yoshimori. He asks Hiromu to come and get Shiori, but Hiromu's too busy with his political campaign. However, thinking it would be good for his campaign, Hiromu reports to the police that Shiori has been kidnapped by Yoshimori.
Episode 11 - Final Episode
Shiori and Yoshimori go to an island that was a favorite of Kahori's. She knows that they must soon part. In order to comfort Shiori, Yoshimori tells her the story of the Bluebird of Happiness. The police finally catch up with Yoshimori and he ends up back in jail!
