Episode 1 (11/18/01)
Chief Magistrate O'oka Tadasuke is seriously wounded in an ambush by a masked band. He had just uncovered the mastermind behind a dastardly gang of thieves. Yoshimune sends his spies out. Meanwhile, the Megumi firefighters prepare a welcome for their new chief...but he's nowhere to be found.
Episode 2 (11/25/01)
Workers transporting gold and silver from Sado to Edo are attacked, and their cargo stolen. A few days later, Megumi chief Eigoro's sister Okyo is shocked to discover a body on the street. However, when she returns to the scene with her brother, the body is gone.
Episode 3 (12/2/01)
When Eigoro discovers that Shin-san is really Shogun Yoshimune, he begs Yoshimune not to come to Megumi anymore. Just then, a fire alarm goes out. The body of the owner of Okushuya is pulled from the ashes.
Episode 4 (12/9/01)
Yoshimune makes the acquaintance of a Dr. Mita who has been working with Kihei, a candle wholesaler, to get donations for a establishing a home for the elderly. One day, Kihei disappears along with the money collected.
Episode 5 (12/16/01)
Kawase Tajima informs Yoshimune that the Emperor in Kyoto would like to see an india-ink painting done by an Edo artist. Tajima suggests one artist, but Hikoemon has his own idea and refuses to budge.
Episode 6 (12/23/01)
A childhood friend proposes to Okyo, but she turns him down. Soon after, he throws himself off a bridge. His sister Okayo accuses Okyo of killing her brother. Before long, the story escalates and Okyo's reputation is in ruins.
Episode 7 (12/30/01)
Okyo's daughter Momo disappears one day. It seems that one of the firemen let it slip to Momo that her father was in Hachioji. Momo sets off on her own, determined to see her father, unaware that he is dead.
Episode 8 (1/6/02)
Policeman Manzo is found murdered. A few days earlier, Eigoro witnessed Manzo threatening lumber wholesaler Izumiya. Izumiya had supplied the lumber for the construction of the temple in Hachioji on which Okyo's late husband worked.
Episode 9 (1/13/02)
Yoshimune names Goto Shusuiryo as Head Keeper of Edo Castle and Protector of the Treasure House. One day, a fire damages an heirloom sword belonging to the Tokugawa Family. Shusuiryo commits harakiri to atone for this incident.
Episode 10 (1/20/02)
A ship carrying materials for the restoration of a temple in Ueno runs aground, and all hands are presumed lost. A few days later, the captain is discovered alive, but before Azami is able to get to him, the captain is slain by a group of samurai.
Episode 11 (1/27/02)
Yoshimune identifies himself as Tokuda Shinnosuke before running off three drunken samurai who are pestering Okyo. A few days later, bills racked up by "Tokuda Shinnosuke" are brought to Megumi for payment. It seems the three men are trying to "get even."
Episode 12 (2/3/02)
If a man remarries too soon after his divorce, the latest trend is for his ex-wife to gain revenge for her failed marriage, by beating up his new wife. Things go awry when new wife Oryo dies after being hit on the head by Omasa.
Episode 13 (2/10/02)
Yoshimune saves Otose and her daughter Otae from a bunch of ruffians. The next day, Otose approaches Fire Chief Eigoro of Megumi, and asks him to arrange a marriage between Tokuda Shinnosuke (Yoshimune) and her daughter!
Episode 14 (2/17/02)
Rumor has it that moneylender Oroku is a devil who charges exhorbitant rates and uses harsh tactics to collect her payments. What's more, she is said to be using young orphans as slave labor at her eatery, but Yoshimune finds out differently.
Episode 15 (2/24/02)
Yoshimune has established a "statute of limitations" law. According to this law, anyone guilty of a petty crime who is not caught within one year, cannot be tried for that crime. A woman demands justice for a theft committed nearly a year ago.
Episode 16 (3/3/02)
Hikoemon orders Eigoro not to allow Yoshimune into the Megumi headquarters. When a stranger hands a baby to Yoshimune, claiming it is somehow connected to Megumi, Yoshimune has no choice but to take the baby back to the castle with him.
Episode 17 (3/10/02)
Oko's childhood friend, Osono is attacked and her husband, the owner of Daikokuya, is killed by a ninja dressed as a merchant. Yoshimune sends in one of his spies to watch over Osono, who has no idea why she is being threatened.
Episode 18 (3/17/02)
Eigoro and his men encounter a band of thieves when they're out on their nightly rounds. They give chase, but are thwarted by law officials. Meanwhile, Yoshimune picks up a fan who refuses to be shaken off.
Episode 19 (3/24/02)
Final Episode. Yoshimoto, new head of the Moori clan has an audience with Yoshimune, and is unable to relax before the Shogun. Tomibe, a vassal, talks him into taking in the sights of the town, but he is scheming to assassinate Yoshimoto.
